Where to purchase a burn permit
Residential Burn Permits are available from January 15th to May 1st each year.
Agricultural Burn Permits are available starting January 1st each year.
You may purchase a burn permit online by filling out the form at the bottom of this web page. If a fee is requried you can pay online with PayPal and the burn permit will be sent to you in an email. If you prefer to pay in person please refer to specific instructions for your town below:
Barre - at RRECC Dispatch (240 Main St, Rutland, MA) or Barre Police Department (40 West St, Barre, MA)
Rutland and Oakham - at RRECC Dispatch (240 Main St, Rutland, MA)
Hubbardston - at RRECC Dispatch (240 Main St, Rutland, MA) or Hubbardston Fire Station 2 (48 Gardner Rd, Hubbardston, MA)
Agricultural burn permits
All Agricultural permits must be approved by the Fire Chief of the town where the burn permit is requested. Once you apply by filling out the form below and the fire chief approves, you will receive a unqiue PIN Code sent to you via Email.

Rutland- Residential and Agricultural $25
Barre- Residential $15 and Agricultural $25
Hubbardston- Residential and Agricultural $10
Oakham- Residential and Agricultural No Fee *
* Oakham Residential and Agricultural permits note: All Oakham permits will require approval from the Fire Chief of Oakham. Once approved a PIN code will be sent to you via email. When you receive this PIN code click here to continue the Oakham permit request.
Open Burn Regulations
Every day you wish to burn you will need to notify RRECC between the hours of 08:30AM and 12:00PM of your intent to burn. There are two ways to make this request:
Option 1: Online
Visit http://www.rrecc.net select the "Request to Burn" menu option under the Burn Permits menu.
Option 2: Phone call
All you will need is your permit number found on the permit.
The phone number to make burn requests is (508) 886-4107. Please have your permit avaialble.
Note: The fire department personnel will make routine spot checks
Burning is allowed from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm
